Sometimes when researching you find out other aspects of a person’s life before you find out anything about their service and such is the case here.
On the Original Wall Unit list there is the name Robert Barrett, who I am assuming is this same young man they refer to here as Bob Barrett.
Click here to view The Bergen Evening Record article dated January 16, 1942, which would have been a few weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor. I am assuming he was drafted or enlisted shortly after this article and that is why his name appears on the Wall Unit.
Bob Barrett was alternating as center for Roanoke College the article states, but his basketball and college careers were put on hold for his service during World War II.
Let us never forget their sacrifice.
